Faculty have a shared responsibility with students and Disability Services for Students (DSS) staff to implement classroom accommodations to ensure equity in the classroom so all students have a level playing field for academic success.
Although student and DSS staff work together to request appropriate accommodations, faculty are vital to make sure the accommodations will work in the classroom. Faculty can and should question accommodation requests if they are inappropriate or would alter the essential requirements for the class. DSS staff is also available to help faculty understand and implement accommodations.
Faculty are also responsible for making sure that students master class content, no matter their disability and that class standards are not lowered or compromised.
